The spirits referred to are Free Market Forces. They are attributed a liberating effect by the high priests of Market Liberalism, and this effect is spreading quickly all over the world:
During the last 6 years, I have been occupied with some peculiar mathematical formulas called "fractals". These formulas, used in the field of "Chaos theory", are relatively simple, but they generate fascinating and surprisingly "organical" patterns when repeated a large number of times and displayed graphically on a computer screen, or played as music.
On this record, all pieces except "...though what made it has gone"Êare made from number material emanating from a "symmetrically coupled dynamic system" formula. The illustrations on page 2 and 10 are graphical representations of two different states of this formula. In my music, the numerical material acts as a skeleton on which a more intuitive musical shaping can take place.
"Stonewave" is perhaps my most "mathematical" piece of music up to now, where the numbers speak for themselves fairly unveiled. In fact, the last third of this piece is one long sweep through a microscopic jungle of numbers arranging themselves in less and less predictable patterns, with a "pocket" of extreme repetiveness before exploding into the last chaotic bars.
